Vietnam has become an unexpected hub for automotive heritage enthusiasts, where ultra-rare classic cars gather, creating a remarkable spectacle for both locals and tourists. Among the highlights of this cultural phenomenon is the 1960 Cadillac Eldorado, one of only two units believed to exist in Vietnam, symbolizing the pinnacle of vintage American luxury.

A Global Gathering of Timeless Automobiles
At a recent year-end meeting of the Saigon Classic Car Club, around 50 classic cars from countries including England, France, Germany, the USA, Italy, and Japan were displayed. The event resembled a “mobile museum,” celebrating automotive artistry and engineering from different eras. Brands such as Citroen, Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, and Toyota shared the spotlight with rare entries like Cadillac, drawing enthusiasts eager to admire these unique vehicles.

Power and Performance of Legends
The fourth-generation Cadillac Eldorado impresses not only with its rarity but also its engineering. Equipped with a 6.4L naturally aspirated V8 engine, it produces 345 horsepower and pairs with a four-speed automatic transmission, driving the rear wheels for that classic American driving experience.

The Ford Mustang Fastback Cobra Jet 428, a one-of-a-kind vehicle in Vietnam, captivated enthusiasts of American muscle cars. The Mach 1 Ram Air Cobra Jet 428 variant generates approximately 335 horsepower and 597 Nm of torque at 3,400 rpm. This lineup also includes additional configurations with two 5.8-liter V8 engines and one 6.4-liter V8 engine.

Iconic Convertible and Vintage Classics
The 1970 Mercury Cougar Convertible stands out as a “super rare” model in Saigon, once associated with popular rapper Binz. The Cougar line has evolved through eight generations over more than three decades, with early models gaining iconic status.

Meanwhile, a first-generation Chevrolet Bel Air Powerglide, dating from 1950-1954, rests gracefully on Saigon streets, recalling an era when this model symbolized American automotive culture.

Even older, the Citroën Traction Avant, over 70 years old, commands attention with its rarity and value, representing a coveted piece among collectors and a historical treasure within Vietnam.

Promoting Heritage and Tourism
Mr. Huynh Minh Hiep, Deputy Head of the Office of the UNESCO Center for Research and Conservation of Vietnamese Antiquities, emphasizes that collecting classic cars is an elegant hobby and a beautiful cultural practice in Ho Chi Minh City. These cars, some over half a century old, are valuable legacies that warrant preservation. Supporting collectors to maintain and operate these vehicles contributes not only to historical preservation but also enhances Vietnam’s tourism image.
