What’s New in Revit 2025: Key Features and Updates

Revit 2025 has officially been released, bringing a host of new features and enhancements to Autodesk’s industry-leading BIM software. This latest version aims to streamline workflows, improve project organization, and enhance user experience for architects, designers, and building professionals. The BIMsmith Team has been hard at work exploring these updates, and this article highlights the most significant changes you can expect in Revit 2025.

New Features in Revit 2025

Revit 2025 introduces several impactful new features designed to boost productivity and simplify complex tasks.

New Revit Home Experience

The Revit 2025 release features a revamped Revit Home, offering enhanced access to your cloud data. This modernized homepage provides a more intuitive and consistent interface, simplifying the process of finding and accessing your models and project versions, thereby accelerating your workflow.

Sheet Collections for Enhanced Organization

A significant addition in Revit 2025 is the introduction of Sheet Collections. This new functionality allows users to group any sheet within a model into custom collections. These collections can then be referenced across various aspects of the project, including views, schedules, and filters, enabling more sophisticated and organized sheet management. Each sheet now includes a “Sheet Collection” parameter, making it easy to assign sheets to predefined or custom groups.

Toposolid Enhancements

Building on the introduction of Topo Solids in Revit 2024, the 2025 version brings several new tools and improvements. Users can now utilize an “Excavate” tool to cut sections of topography from their models, with Revit capable of calculating excavation volume by element. The “Simplify Toposolid” tool allows for the reduction of geometric complexity by adjusting the number of internal points defining the toposolid. Additionally, a “Toposolid by Face” tool enables the creation of toposolids directly from the face of a mass, and a new “Toposolid Smooth Shading” feature improves the visual representation of toposolids by smoothing linework where necessary.

Material Management Improvements

Revit 2025 enhances material management with a new batch feature for the Material Browser. Users can now select multiple materials simultaneously to delete them or add them to a library, a significant improvement over the previous one-at-a-time process. Furthermore, the generation of material thumbnails has been improved with a new rendering engine, offering options for both quick and production-quality rendering.

Enhanced Type Properties and Parameter Management

Productivity in managing families and types is boosted with several enhancements. The “Remember Type Properties Dialog Grid Divider Setting” ensures that column divider widths in the Type Properties box are saved between sessions. For greater flexibility, alphanumeric sorting is now supported in both the Properties and Type Properties dialogs, allowing users to override the default parameter order for easier access.

Workflow and Annotation Improvements

Several features focus on refining daily workflows and annotation tasks. The “Auto-join & Lock When Placing Walls as Finish” enhancement simplifies wall creation by allowing users to auto-join and optionally lock new walls with adjacent ones. For annotations, the “Align and Distribute Text Tags and Keynotes” feature automates the arrangement of text elements for improved project neatness. Similarly, text alignment for multiple selected text elements can now be adjusted simultaneously through the ribbon.

Electrical and Dynamo Updates

Revit 2025 introduces support for single-phase components within three-phase power distribution systems, enabling the definition of single-phase analytical loads and distribution elements. Dynamo for Revit also receives substantial updates, including new nodes and functionalities that improve interaction with linked models, Revit geometry, and the generation of topography using Toposolid nodes.

Dark Theme Enhancements

The Dark Theme, a popular feature for reducing eye strain, has been expanded to include schedules and panel schedules. Additionally, when activating Dark Theme, colors in all views automatically convert to maintain readability while preserving their general hue.

Community Feedback and Future Outlook

While Revit 2025 brings numerous valuable updates, the BIMsmith Team encourages the AEC community to actively engage with the new features and provide critical feedback. Exploring what’s included, and what might still be missing, fosters a collective effort towards advancing the future of construction and design. Active participation in forums and communities is vital for driving innovation and improvements in the industry.
