For years, my dogs have gone through countless toys, but a select few have truly stood the test of time and earned a permanent spot in our home. Each year, I review and update my top ten list to include new contenders, ensuring only the best make the cut. Below, I’ve ranked these toys in reverse order of my personal preference, focusing on durability, engagement, and overall value for both dogs and their owners.

#10 Tug Of War Donkey

New to the list this year, the Tug Of War Donkey is a soft yet sturdy toy with a strong tug rope securely attached at each end. It features a satisfying crinkly material inside and a squeaker, making it irresistible for playful pups. While not indestructible, it’s perfect for interactive tug-of-war games. I initially bought it for Bonnie because of its adorable design, and despite ordering the smaller size by mistake, she loves it.

Note: Fabric toys like this should not be left unattended with dogs prone to destroying plush items.

#9 Benebone Wishbone

The Benebone Wishbone is another new addition to my list and the first flavored toy I’ve tested in a while. Unlike previous flavored chew toys that quickly lost my dogs’ interest, the Benebone range has received rave reviews—and my dogs seem to agree. Its unique shape and flavor make it a hit for extended chewing sessions.

#8 Kong Jumbler Football

This toy is a love-it-or-leave-it kind of product. Some of my dogs adore the Kong Jumbler Football, while others find it just “meh.” However, its interactive design makes it ideal for fetch, thanks to its indented handles for easy pickup. Bonnie, my Labrador, is a huge fan. While not entirely indestructible, it’s a great choice for active play.

#7 Tree Root Chew

For dogs with a natural urge to chew wood, Wildfang Chew Roots made from heather wood are a fantastic option. These chews are tough and can last weeks, making them especially useful for young dogs under two. They’re a bit pricey, but they can save your furniture from destructive chewing.

#6 Kong Wobbler

The Kong Wobbler is a food dispenser that doubles as a toy. It’s sturdy, self-righting, and holds a significant amount of food, which dispenses as your dog pushes it around. Supervision is recommended, as it can be overly exciting for some pups. Remember to adjust your dog’s meal portions to avoid overfeeding.

#5 Kong Knots Bear

The Kong Knots Bear is the best dog teddy bear I’ve tested so far. While not indestructible, it’s highly durable for carrying, shaking, and even machine washing. However, it’s not a chew toy and won’t last long with determined chewers. For prolonged use, introduce soft toys to puppies at a young age and provide alternatives for chewing.

#4 Classic Kong

The Classic Kong is a timeless favorite. Its hollow center allows you to fill it with semi-liquid mixtures, which can be frozen for extended chew sessions. This toy is particularly useful for puppies left alone for hours. To prevent risks like tongue entrapment, ensure the small air hole at the top remains unblocked during freezing.

#3 Deer Antler

Deer antlers are controversial due to their hardness, which can potentially break a dog’s teeth. However, many vets believe the benefits outweigh the risks, as they provide hours of satisfying chewing. My dogs love them, especially the rounded sections from the base, which last longer. If you’re considering antlers, ensure they’re sourced responsibly.

#2 Kong Goodie Bone

The Kong Goodie Bone is a versatile toy that caught my attention while training my husband’s terrier to retrieve. It’s perfect for carrying and fetching, thanks to its balanced design and compartments for food. These toys are solid, durable, and come in three sizes, making them suitable for dogs of all breeds.

#1 Kong Ring

The Kong Ring is the undisputed champion in our household. It’s the first toy my dogs grab when greeting me and has proven to be the most durable and beloved toy we’ve ever owned. These rings are easy to throw, pick up, and carry around. Even after years of use, they remain as strong as ever, making them a must-have for every dog.
