Trans Am Worldwide (TAW) has unveiled its latest creation, the 70/SS, a modern interpretation of the legendary 1970 Chevelle Super Sport. This ambitious project, seven years in the making, aims to capture the spirit of the original muscle car while incorporating contemporary engineering and performance.
The 70/SS is designed to pay homage to one of the most revered American muscle cars. TAW has meticulously reimagined the classic Chevelle SS, blending its iconic, boxy lines with a modern chassis and powertrain options. While specifics about the “modern platform” are scarce, it’s plausible it shares underpinnings with other TAW models, such as the Camaro used in their Bandit Edition Trans Am.
Performance is a key highlight of the 70/SS. The entry-level model features a 6.2-liter LT-1 V8 engine producing 450 horsepower. For those seeking more, TAW offers a 900bhp option. The pinnacle of the range is the “LS6/X 454” version, which boasts an astonishing 1,500bhp, putting it in contention with hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron. Production of this extreme variant will be limited to just 25 units. All 70/SS models will be rear-wheel-drive and available with either a manual or automatic transmission.
Customers can choose from “heritage colours” that evoke the era of the original Chevelle SS, or opt for “modern tri-stage custom colours” for a more vibrant aesthetic. The starting price for the 70/SS is $150,000, with customization options potentially increasing the final cost.
TAW boss Tod Warmack stated, “Our engineers and technicians have invested thousands of hours to reimagine this automotive icon on a modern platform.” He added that the company’s focus has shifted entirely to the 70/SS, with the Trans Am model currently on hiatus pending a complete redesign.
The 70/SS represents a significant undertaking by Trans Am Worldwide, aiming to reignite the passion for classic American muscle cars with a modern, high-performance offering.
