The 2025 Lucid Air stands as a compelling testament to the evolution of electric vehicles, offering an impressive driving range of up to 512 miles on a single charge and a refined interior designed for ultimate comfort on long journeys. While it may not match the outright opulence of the BMW i7, the Lucid Air excels in overall performance, harmonizing its capabilities as both an electric vehicle and a sports sedan. Although the high-end Grand Touring and performance-focused Sapphire trims garner attention with their substantial horsepower and premium amenities, the entry-level Pure and mid-range Touring trims deliver nearly as much impressiveness without the six-figure price tag. All Lucid Air models boast advanced technological features, including essential driver assistance systems and sophisticated infotainment, but the company’s true engineering prowess is evident in its underlying technology. Lucid’s innovative modular battery design and its remarkably compact yet powerful electric motors set it apart in the competitive EV landscape. For those who have hesitated to embrace electric mobility due to range concerns, the Lucid Air presents a powerful incentive to transition to an electric car. Its remarkable performance and features have earned it a place on both our 2025 10Best and 2025 Editors’ Choice lists, solidifying its position as a leader in the EV market.
What’s New for 2025?
The 2025 Lucid Air receives several internal enhancements, with the most notable being changes to the base Pure model’s battery. The battery capacity has been slightly reduced from 88.0 kWh to 84.0 kWh, yet this adjustment surprisingly increases its estimated driving range by 1 mile to a remarkable 420 miles per charge. Lucid asserts that this makes the Air Pure the most energy-efficient vehicle available, boasting an EPA-estimated rating of 146 MPGe. All Air models now incorporate the advanced climate control heat pump previously exclusive to the top-spec Sapphire performance model. The infotainment system has been upgraded with new control hardware for enhanced processing power. Furthermore, key driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree exterior camera system are now standard across all trims. The Grand Touring model also receives an upgraded audio system, known as Surreal Sound Pro. To provide added value, all new Lucid Air purchases now include a complimentary scheduled maintenance plan covering two years or 24,000 miles.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
For prospective buyers seeking the best balance of value and performance, the Pure model is highly recommended. It delivers a substantial 430 horsepower and an impressive 420 miles of estimated driving range, all while being significantly more accessible than the higher-tier Grand Touring and Sapphire trims. The Pure trim comes well-equipped with 12-way power-adjustable heated front seats, a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features, and a large, intuitive touchscreen interface.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The entry-level Lucid Air Pure is equipped with a single rear-mounted electric motor, producing a robust 430 horsepower. Higher trims feature dual electric motors, offering all-wheel drive and a range of power outputs: the Touring model boasts 620 horsepower, while the Grand Touring delivers a staggering 1050 horsepower. The ultimate performance variant, the 1234-hp Lucid Air Sapphire, utilizes a three-motor setup, with an additional motor at the rear contributing to its extraordinary acceleration capabilities, designed to rival the Tesla Model S Plaid. While the power difference is more apparent in acceleration to higher speeds, with the Touring model reaching 130 mph in 12.0 seconds compared to the Grand Touring’s 10.3 seconds, the sedan’s ride remains exceptionally composed and smooth, especially in the aptly named “Smooth” drive mode. A minor drawback noted was the road noise generated by the 21-inch wheels and low-profile performance tires on coarser pavement.
0–60-MPH Times
In testing, the Grand Touring trim achieved a rapid 3.0-second 60-mph time, a figure easily repeatable using the car’s launch control. The more accessible Touring model matched this with an identical 3.0-second 60-mph sprint, while the rear-wheel-drive Pure completed the task in 4.3 seconds. The top-tier Air Sapphire demonstrated blistering performance, reaching 60 mph in a mere 2.1 seconds at our test track, and an even quicker 1.9 seconds on a prepped surface at Sonoma Raceway, marking it as one of the fastest EVs tested.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The Lucid Air redefines electric vehicle range, offering the longest estimated range of any EV currently available according to EPA figures. Grand Touring models are equipped with a 118.0-kWh battery pack and support DC fast charging, while the Touring trim uses a smaller 92.0-kWh pack, and the Pure features an 84.0-kWh battery. The base Pure model is estimated to travel up to 420 miles on a full charge, with the Touring model offering an estimated 406 miles. The Grand Touring variant boasts an exceptional range of up to 512 miles. On our standardized 75-mph highway range test, the Grand Touring achieved an impressive 410 miles, making it the longest-range EV we have ever tested. The Touring model tested covered 280 miles, and the RWD Pure lasted for 300 miles before requiring a recharge. Lucid claims the Air can regain approximately 300 miles of range in just 21 minutes when connected to a compatible fast charger.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
The most energy-efficient variant is the Air Pure, rated at 146 MPGe combined. The Touring model achieves up to 133 MPGe combined, and the Grand Touring is rated at up to 129 MPGe combined. The high-performance Sapphire is the least efficient, with a combined rating of 105 MPGe. In real-world testing on our 75-mph highway route, the Grand Touring model recorded 82 MPGe, while the Touring performed better at 107 MPGe, and the Pure delivered an impressive 109 MPGe. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Lucid Air is meticulously crafted as a luxury automobile, featuring a sophisticated interior adorned with premium materials and advanced technology. Lucid places a strong emphasis on the sedan’s generous interior space, particularly highlighted by its spacious rear seating area. The rear seats comfortably accommodate two adults, with the possibility of seating a third for shorter journeys. The expansive glass roof enhances the sense of spaciousness and improves outward visibility. The design of the front center console provides ample storage, featuring a retractable lower touchscreen, a sizable center console bin with cupholders, and dedicated slots for smartphone storage. Additionally, the front trunk, or “frunk,” offers approximately 10 cubic feet of cargo volume.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Lucid Air is equipped with an advanced infotainment system that comprises a prominent upper touchscreen seamlessly integrated with the digital gauge cluster, and a lower, tablet-like touchscreen that controls various functions and can retract into the dashboard. Lucid states that the system’s voice recognition software is designed to understand natural speech patterns. The interface also includes a learning assistant that adapts to the user’s preferred climate and audio settings. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features. Complementing the touch interface, physical controls are present on the steering wheel, along with toggles for climate control and a rotary dial for audio volume adjustment.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Overall Safety Rating (NHTSA)
The Lucid Air comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technology, and Lucid is actively developing Level 3 self-driving capabilities, which are anticipated to be available via over-the-air updates in the future.
