This guide provides an overview of the license management process for Naviate for Revit, specifically for version 2022.1.1 and future releases. The system has transitioned to a user-based licensing model managed through a new Symetri License Portal.
Creating a Symetri User ID
When you first launch Revit after installing Naviate 2022-2025, you will be prompted to log in. You can create a new Symetri User ID at this stage, use an existing Naviate.com account, or utilize an account created for you by your company’s license administrator via the Symetri License Portal. Creating a Symetri User ID is a crucial step for accessing Naviate applications. The account you use dictates which installed Naviate applications you can access. If no license is assigned to your account for an application, you will be offered a one-month trial.
Once logged in on a computer, your session is remembered until you log out. You won’t need to log in every time you start Naviate, though extended inactivity might require re-authentication. Internet access is necessary for account creation, login, and license activation. Post-activation, offline use is possible depending on your license type. You can still use Revit without logging into Naviate, but the Naviate applications will be disabled. The “X” button can be clicked when prompted to log in. Your current login status and the option to log out are accessible via the Help ribbon, which can be activated from the Help button in each application’s ribbon. Notably, Naviate Rebar Extension does not require a Symetri account or a license to run.
Naviate Licensing System Explained
Naviate applications from version 2022 onwards utilize a new licensing system centered around the Symetri User ID. Your purchased Naviate licenses must be assigned to these user accounts through the Symetri License portal. As a license administrator within your company, you can manage these assignments. The contract administrator initially holds this access, but it can be extended to other users. The portal allows for license assignment and revocation. Additionally, a one-month trial period is available for installed applications for which you do not possess a license.
This new system supports Single-user, Multi-user, and Trial licenses.
Single-User License
A single-user license is personal and assigned to a specific Symetri User ID. It can be activated for offline use for a maximum of one month without requiring an internet connection. You can activate a single-user license on two computers but cannot use them simultaneously. Licenses can be deactivated on one computer and activated on another; for assistance with deactivation, contact support or your Symetri representative. Licenses are time-restricted according to your contract and are automatically updated upon renewal.
Multi-User License
A multi-user license allows for assignment to multiple Symetri User IDs, enabling users to share a pool of seats. A seat is consumed when you run a Naviate tool for the associated application or within Naviate Accelerate. If all seats are in use, you must wait for a seat to become available. Seats are automatically returned to the pool when Revit/Naviate is closed or when you log out. Continuous internet connectivity is required for multi-user licenses. Like single-user licenses, they are time-restricted and update automatically upon contract renewal.
Trial License
If you install a Naviate application without a license, you’ll be prompted to start a one-month trial. This trial can be activated once per computer. While the trial is active, you can use the Naviate application offline. Choosing “No” when offered a trial means you won’t be prompted again unless you log out and restart Naviate.
Symetri License Portal
The Symetri License portal is a web application accessible via the Help ribbon in Naviate or directly at https://license.symetri.com. Sign in using your Symetri User ID.
Standard User Capabilities
As a standard user, you can view the Naviate licenses assigned to your account, check any active trial versions, and deactivate a license on a specific computer.
License Administrator Capabilities
License administrators at your company have broader control. They can view all company-owned licenses, invite or remove users, and assign or unassign licenses to users within the company.
It is important to note that only licenses for Naviate 2022 are managed through the Symetri License portal. Older versions of Naviate continue to use the FLEXlm licensing solution.
