Frustrations with Pet Sitting App: User Experience and Profile Management Issues

As a dedicated dog owner and sitter, I rely on a seamless app experience to manage my pets’ care and connect with sitters. Unfortunately, the current application falls short, presenting significant usability challenges that hinder effective profile management and communication.

The app’s functionality issues are multifaceted and deeply impact user experience. Firstly, attempts to update sitter profiles often result in unsaved changes. When modifying profile details and confirming with “Done,” the system fails to retain these edits, leading to wasted effort and outdated information. A particularly critical flaw lies in the “Friendly with Dogs?” setting. Selecting “Depends” is intended to convey a nuanced response, but this crucial information does not appear on the dog’s profile for pet sitters to see. This oversight can lead to misunderstandings and potential safety concerns, as sitters may not be aware of a pet’s specific needs or sensitivities around other dogs.

Furthermore, the app lacks the ability to update the profile name and restricts the creation of multiple dog owner profiles. This means only one owner’s name is displayed, causing confusion when the other owner interacts with pet sitters. The current setup necessitates constant clarification of who is communicating, disrupting a smooth interaction process. A further complication arose during profile creation: when my husband set up our dog owner profile, the app automatically used his name for my pet sitter profile, preventing me from entering my own name. This lack of flexibility is a significant drawback for households with multiple pet owners.

Navigational elements within the app also prove problematic. The icon in the top left corner, intended to switch between “Past/Archived” and “Pending/Upcoming” messages, is unintuitive and confusing. As an experienced app user who previously worked in app development, I found it challenging to locate messages with past dog sitters. The current design is not user-friendly and deviates from standard app conventions, forcing users to decipher its meaning rather than readily understanding its function. A more straightforward approach, such as a single inbox with an archiving feature, would greatly improve message management and accessibility.

While the app offers a valuable service, these user interface and functionality issues detract significantly from its utility. Addressing these problems is crucial for enhancing user satisfaction and ensuring efficient pet care coordination. The developer has acknowledged these issues and stated that an update is being worked on to resolve them.
