AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.12: A Game-Changer for PC Gamers

The release of AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.12 marks a significant leap forward in graphics driver technology, offering PC gamers a streamlined, feature-rich experience. This update introduces a completely redesigned user interface, Radeon Settings, which is engineered to unlock the full potential of AMD graphics hardware.

Revolutionizing the User Experience with Radeon Settings

Radeon Settings is poised to replace the aging AMD Catalyst Control Center, promising a faster and more intuitive interaction for users. With a startup time up to 10 times faster than its predecessor, this new interface boasts a comprehensive game manager, enhanced per-game AMD Overdrive options, and dedicated tabs for video, display, and Eyefinity configurations. This overhaul ensures that managing your graphics settings is no longer a chore, but an efficient part of your gaming setup.

Streamlined Installation and Advanced Technologies

Beyond the new UI, the Crimson Edition 15.12 driver installer has been rebuilt from the ground up. It now features a significantly reduced number of clicks, offering a more user-friendly and efficient installation process. This attention to usability extends to the groundbreaking inclusion of LiquidVR™ features, making this the first publicly available driver to enable all LiquidVR capabilities, currently undergoing validation with leading VR headset manufacturers.

Furthermore, the update brings Asynchronous Shaders to PC gamers, a technology previously the domain of game consoles. By breaking down complex serial workloads into smaller, parallel tasks, Asynchronous Shaders enable more efficient use of idle GPU resources, leading to faster task completion. Complementing this is the Shader Cache feature, which stores complex shaders to reduce game loading times, lower CPU usage, and minimize stuttering and latency during gameplay.

Enhancing Responsiveness and Visual Fidelity

Input lag is a critical concern for competitive gamers, and the Crimson Edition 15.12 addresses this directly with Optimized Flip Queue Size. This driver optimization automatically reduces input latency in DirectX 9, DirectX 10, and DirectX 11 applications by ensuring gamers receive the latest keyboard and mouse positional information.

AMD’s FreeSync™ technology also sees substantial enhancements. The update now lists the minimum and maximum display rates within Radeon Settings and introduces Low Framerate Compensation (LFC) to smooth out judder when application frame rates drop below the display’s refresh rate. Additionally, FreeSync™ now offers new support for AMD CrossFire™ configurations in DirectX 9 titles.

Users demanding greater control over their visual experience will appreciate the expanded Custom Resolution Support, allowing the creation of personalized display profiles for resolution, timings, refresh rates, and pixel clocks. Frame pacing support has been extended to DirectX 9 titles, and Frame Rate Target Control (FRTC) enhancements include power-saving capabilities, support for DirectX 9 games, and an expanded target range of 30-200 FPS.

Multimedia and Power Optimizations

For multimedia enthusiasts, the Crimson Edition 15.12 provides updated video feature support for ‘Carrizo’ products. This includes FluidMotion for smoother playback of 24/30 FPS video content via Cyberlink PowerDVD 15, improved edge enhancement for sharper images, and better de-interlacing for interlaced content. Significant power optimizations have also been implemented for video, gaming, and FRTC-enabled gaming environments across a range of AMD Radeon graphics cards, including the R7 360, R9 380, R9 390 series, and Fury series.

Directional Scaling and Dynamic Contrast have also been refined. Directional Scaling enhances image quality for 1080p content scaled to 4K using adaptive directional filtering, particularly noticeable on AMD Radeon Fury products. Dynamic Contrast updates are now content-adaptive, offering improved video quality and contrast settings for enthusiasts using the R8 285, R9 380, and Fury product lines. Finally, full support for DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 connections is now available via certified dongles.

This comprehensive update positions the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.12 as an essential upgrade for anyone looking to maximize their gaming performance, visual quality, and overall user experience with AMD graphics hardware.
